Anaba Wines’ Founder John Sweazey created his winery in Sonoma County after deciding to pursue his lifelong interest in wine. In addition to Burgundy, he was particularly taken with the French style of winemaking in the Rhône Valley and the influence of the yearly wind, Le Mistral, that offered the vines a cool respite from the punishing summer heat. His own vineyards are influenced by Sonoma County’s anabatic (upslope) winds, and he saw this connection as fortuitous. The name “Anaba” was chosen as a celebration of the wind, and as an homage to the French regions where John discovered his love of wine.
Barrel No. 1 is a collaborative effort of Anaba’s two exceptional winemakers, Ross Cobb and Katy Wilson. In this one-of-a-kind barrel, three select cool climate vineyards capture the essence of West Sonoma Coast while highlighting the Cobb/Wilson signature style of restrained, elegant and balanced Pinot Noir. This barrel showcases three clones: Pommard, Swan and 115. The wine is aged 18 months in once-used French oak.
