In 1977, with only $250 to his name, 17 year-old John Balletto transformed his family’s five-acre homesite into a farm to support his family after the untimely death of his father. Thirty five years later, he now farms more than 650 acres of premium wine grapes in the Russian River Valley, and uses the top 10 percent of those grapes to bottle distinct and elegant estate grown and estate bottled wine.
This 2017 Barrel Auction lot comes from a single block of Pinot Noir from one of his most cherished vineyards, Burnside Road Vineyard, which was the first vineyard the family planted more than 20 years ago. This hillside vineyard, located in the hills southwest of Sebastopol, sits atop the hill at 950-foot elevation and is exposed to the cold and foggy Pacific Ocean that lies about 10 miles away.
Burnside Road Vineyard is a special place that produces Pinot Noir with structured tannins and weight, natural acidity and overall balance, and is a benchmark example of Balletto’s ability to craft wines of unmatched elegance.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
