ABOUT THE WINE

The first time the team at Belden Barns Estate tasted Serendipity Block out of barrel, they looked at each other and started to laugh—a “holy-cow-we-really-did-it” kind of laugh. From the beginning, Serendipity Block has been a very deliberate effort to create a very special wine.

Belden Barns Estate interplanted their best pocket of vineyard with nine separate Pinot Noir clones. Knowing full well that none of the clones ripen at the same time, they limited the picking of Serendipity Block to one day. They fermented the entire lot whole-cluster and aged it solely in neutral oak. In this way, they captured the essence of Serendipity Block at one moment in time with limited winemaking influence.

This nature-over-nurture approach has yielded a spectacular wine. Distinct, complex, cerebral—it’s truly a product of life’s enchanting possibilities. In 2015, Belden Barns yielded enough fruit from Serendipity Block to produce only four rare barrels of wine. This five-case selection comes from the barrel that best represents the potential of this tiny, magical spot.
