If you are looking for the best of Blue Rock Vineyard, it is right here within your grasp. In fact, this winery, known for tiny quantities of luxury wines from a 100-acre parcel in Alexander Valley, began its tradition of the “Best Barrel” in 2003 when Consulting Winemaker Nick Goldschmidt singled out one barrel of Malbec as undeniably exceptional. Since then, this winery has created a Best Barrel when—and only when—there is a lot that effortlessly earns the designation.
The 2016 vintage offered Blue Rock a bounty of choices, but the winemaking team fell in love with the Estate Cabernet Franc. Many moons ago, Blue Rock Vineyard made the fortuitous decision to source a suitcase clone from legendary Winemaker Rex Geitner, who once worked at Cheval Blanc. The wines from this heritage clone showcase feminine, athletic qualities with layers of lean muscle and a transfixing, deep purple hue. The wine is as perfumed and seductive as only the most aspirational Cabernet Franc wines can be. Cabernet Sauvignon, eat your heart out!
