Proprietor and Winemaker Michael Browne is realizing his vision for CIRQ by crafting wines of uncommon breeding that delight the senses. Sometimes something magical jumps out of the barrel and deserves special attention, and in 2016 that magic was Clone 23–a Swiss clone that is a looser clustered Mariafeld selection, from both of their estate vineyards.
This unique 10-case lot showcases the Clone 23 that grows at Bootlegger’s Hill and Treehouse Vineyard, both in the Russian River Valley. Clone 23 is perfectly suited to these sites, yet the influence of each location results in two distinct expressions. Treehouse Vineyard is known for delivering dark and brooding intensity and textures; Bootlegger’s Hill produces a high-tone bright fruit quality. For this lot, Michael found inspiration in the breadth and weight of both wines from each property, and he created a small lot, memorable wine that is a highly unique celebration of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. This lot will be bottled in any special format size, upon request.
