The vineyard blocks or specific vine rows for each DANIEL wine are chosen by the grower for their potential for capturing the spirit and character of the vineyard site. The DANIEL “Calera Clone” is the first and only clonal designation that they have made, and it specifically focuses on Winemaker Daniel Fitzgerald’s favorite heritage Pinot Noir clone. This clone produces medium-bodied Pinots that are highly aromatic, and is particularly well-suited to the different soil composition in these two vineyard sites.
The two vineyard sites, Cattiva and Laguna, represent the past and the future of winegrowing in Sonoma County. The Cattiva Vineyard is owned by Daniel’s wife, her siblings, and her cousins, part of the fourth generation of a legendary winemaking family—owners of California Winery Bond #4, dating back to the late 1800s. The Laguna Vineyard was planted by owners Arturo Robledo, Sr. and his son Arturo Robledo, Jr., a first-generation father-and-son team who started as vineyard workers and now own multiple vineyards across Napa Valley and Sonoma County.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
