Originally distinguished as the first winery on Westside Road in Healdsburg, Davis Bynum was also first to produce a single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. The vintage was 1973, and the grapes were from Joe Rochioli’s now-legendary vineyard. Today, more than 40 years later under the direction of Proprietor Tom Klein, Winemaker Greg Morthole and Consultant David Ramey, the heritage of Davis Bynum lives on through the handcrafted creation of single vineyard wines grown exclusively in Russian River Valley.
This Russian River single vineyard Chardonnay is from Block 95 of the River West Vineyard, located in the Middle Reach Neighborhood. The vines were planted in 1991 on AXR1 in gravelly sandy soil. This single clone wine, the Spring Mountain clone, has distinct floral qualities and is a classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay that reveals rich layers of fruit, a supple mouthfeel and bright acid balance.
