For 45 years, Dry Creek Vineyard has established historic firsts for the wine industry, including being the first winery to label a wine ‘Old Vine Zinfandel’ in 1987. For this commemorative lot, Winemaker Tim Bell has drawn upon four distinctive old vine vineyards in Dry Creek Valley to create a sensational field blend.
Zinfandel from the historic Beeson Ranch, a dramatic bowl-shaped site on the western hillside, is supplemented with small amounts of Carignane, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Trousseau Gris and Pinot St. George. A separate block of Petite Sirah adds color and backbone. Another unique field blend vineyard, Kowalski, adds a unique character from its dry-farmed old vines. The third component is derived from Buchignani Vineyard, a dry-farmed, head-trained vineyard owned by a multi-generational grape growing family in the Dry Creek Valley. This benchmark lot is ideal for the collector who appreciates the history of these revered old vine properties in the Dry Creek Valley.
