Ferrari-Carano has come a long way since the early 80s, from what started as a hobby in a barn and only 30 acres of grapes in Alexander Valley. In those days, “Carano Cellars” was on the label and was mostly shared only with family and friends—like the Carano Cellars Premium Red Wine and Zinfandel Blush. Today, 35 plus years later, winery owner Don Carano still appreciates a good red blend, and he’s delighted to share his personally chosen 2015 Four Barrel Mountain Reserve Red for this unique lot.
This collector’s wine is comprised primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah. Cave-aged in 100% French oak, 60% new, Don’s Four Barrel Reserve Red has layers of supple textures and fruit-driven flavors with a unique richness that is a hallmark of mountain vineyards in Alexander Valley. The result is a wine with dark ruby red color with robust aromas of cassis, blackberry jam, licorice and cedar, complemented by full flavors of ripe plum, blueberries and caramel with a long, velvety finish. It promises to drink well for 10-15 years.
