Founded in 1973 by Fred and Juelle Fisher—and now led by three siblings of the second generation—Fisher Vineyards produces terroir-driven, estate grown wines from both Sonoma County and Napa Valley. First planted in 1973 to Old Wente clone Chardonnay, Whitney’s Vineyard grows at 1,000 feet on a gravelly, gently sloping, southwestern facing hillside of the Mayacamas Mountains. Owing to its mountain heritage and low-nutrient soils, this site produces tiny clusters of tightly packed ‘hens and chicks’ berries boasting brilliant minerality and classic Chardonnay character.
This 2015 barrel selection represents the 40th consecutive vintage produced from this special site. It is also the final vintage to include fruit from the original 42 year-old vines. With a classic Burgundian elevage of 18 months in 50% new French barrique, this wine is fermented with native yeast and aged on primary lees. Rich in phenolic texture, the palate gives way to flavors of lemon zest, crème caramel, wet stone minerality and bright, mouth-watering acidity.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
