Inspired by the majesty of the wild Sonoma Coast, Proprietors Linda and Lester Schwartz founded Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery in 1994 when they began preparing grassland at the top of the steep, rugged coastal ridge to plant to vine. This picturesque 52-acre single vineyard is a necklace of 32 small mountain blocks that range in elevation from 1,200 to 1,700 feet overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With Winemaker Jeff Pisoni at the helm, Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery strives to craft wines of purity and elegance that reflect the challenges of this extreme site through minimal winemaking intervention and dedicated micro-farming practices. Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery produces 5,000 cases a year of estate grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinotage.
The fruit that flourishes in this rugged atmosphere results in unforgettable wines, and this Cuvée is no exception. These 60 bottles were crafted exclusively for the Sonoma County Barrel Auction from carefully selected Calera, Pommard, Swan, Dijon 115 and 777 clones. This complex Pinot Noir delights the palate with berry flavors, hints of forest floor and a dusting of Asian spice. Refined, supple tannins and the Fort Ross Vineyard signature minerality are revealed through the layered, velvety finish.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
