About five miles from Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery, up the gently winding Westside Road, lies the renowned 162-acre Rochioli Vineyard, which was originally purchased in 1938 by Joe Rochioli, Sr. The vision of growing world-class Pinot Noir in these fertile, gravelly soils was brought to fruition by Joe Jr. after his father’s passing in 1966.
Of the 128 planted acres on the Rochioli Vineyard, half are planted to various clones of Pinot Noir. This release comes from the River Block, planted in 1989, using cuttings from the original “mother” block planted in 1968. These old vines consistently produce some of the best wines in all of the Russian River Valley, and Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery has been fortunate to acquire a selection of this outstanding fruit for over three decades. This particular lot was blended with Clone 777 from the New River Block, planted in 2000, and was fermented with 20% whole clusters to accentuate the beautiful Rochioli terroir.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
