In 2016, Robert Parker wrote that the Bordeaux-inspired wines from Gundlach Bundschu prove that Sonoma can produce “profound” and “world-class” Cabernet Sauvignons. His scores echo the compliment—the last four vintages of Gundlach Bundschu’s Vintage Reserve Bordeaux blend artist series wines have earned 93, 91, 93 and 97 points from The Wine Advocate.
As the pinnacle of the Cabernet Sauvignon program at the Gundlach Bundschu estate, Vintage Reserve receives only the highest quality grapes each harvest that are optically sorted and treated with kid gloves. Then, Gundlach Bundschu Winemakers Anne Dempsey and Keith Emerson craft the wine together, as they have since 2009. But winemakers don’t always agree on which barrels shine the brightest.
For this special auction lot, they didn’t have to decide. Anne and Keith blended a unique wine from their two personal favorite barrels of 2015 Vintage Reserve. Expect a full-bodied, muscular wine exhibiting the classic Gundlach Bundschu estate characteristics of dark chocolate, black fruits, mouth filling texture and solid acidity.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
