The Martinelli family’s wine journey began in the Russian River Valley more than 135 years ago when Italian Chemist Giuseppe Martinelli arrived with a dream of making wine from his own vineyards. His vines flourished, and the Martinelli family is now firmly ensconced in Sonoma County, providing grapes to some of the most revered wineries. In fact, the family sells more grapes than they make into their own wine, making this lot a rare discovery.
This Russian River Valley lot is curated from the Lolita Vineyard, a prime location that boasts slopes of 55 degrees—a configuration that is now illegal to plant. The team hand-harvested each grape, specifically picking only the vines that best express the unique characteristics of these sunbathed, steep slopes. This is the first time anyone will be able to relish the flavors of this terroir selectively curated by Martinelli Winemaker Courtney Wagoner and offered exclusively for the Barrel Auction.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
