The Mauritson family has been farming in Sonoma County for six generations, with 2018 marking the 150th anniversary of the homesteading of their Rockpile property! This never before, never again lot, “The Matron of Rockpile”, pays homage to the strong female leadership that helped guide the family through the tougher times of generations past: prohibition, the great depression, and losing the majority of the property to eminent domain. Without these amazing women, the farming legacy of the Mauritson family would not be what it is today.
While Cabernet is often referred to as king, it could be argued that Cabernet Franc is the queen and Merlot the princess. This once in a lifetime wine proudly features the more feminine Bordeaux varietals in the blend. The “Matron of Rockpile” is the quintessential metaphor of the ancestral women in the Mauritson family: elegant and powerful, refined and complex, bold and unapologetic, the epitome of this extraordinary place-Rockpile!
