Forty-four years ago, while earning their Master’s Degrees together at UC Davis, Winemakers Merry Edwards and Steve MacRostie struck up a friendship while studying in the unfinished utility room—a.k.a “The Dungeon”—of the Enology & Viticulture department. Four decades later, and for the first time ever, Merry and Steve have collaborated on a very special wine.
In honor of the place where their friendship started, they’ve called this unforgettable single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Klopp Ranch—“The Dungeon”. Bringing together the best lots from both wineries, this magnificent wine embodies the vibrant complexity of Klopp Ranch, which is located in the acclaimed “Golden Triangle” region of the Russian River Valley. Originally planted in 1989, and farmed by the father-daughter team of Ted and Lauren Klopp, Klopp Ranch yields a lush and silky wine renowned for its concentration. To make this one-of-a-kind wine, Steve and Merry were joined by the gifted palates of MacRostie Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen and Merry Edwards Associate Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
