Black Bart was a notorious Northern California outlaw who left poetry behind after he robbed a place. He disappeared in 1888—the same year the historic Bedrock Vineyard began to be planted. Mostly Zinfandel, the blend from Bedrock Vineyard is completed with mixed blacks like Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and Carignane. These varietals, like Black Bart, are powerful and romantic, making this wine truly deserving of his name.
The wine is produced from 126 year-old vines, the majority of which come from two of California’s greatest vineyards: Sonoma Valley’s Old Hill Ranch and Bedrock Vineyard. The result is a classic California ancient vine Zinfandel. Deep and dark in color, this wine has aromatics that are both forceful and graceful. Black cherry, raspberry, forest floor and vanilla mingle with the mixed black resinous character to create a complex melange of pleasing aromas. This is a big, rich wine that fills the mouth and lingers long after many lesser wines have vaporized. Exquisite and satisfying, Black Bart’s Zin will continue to give pleasure for many years.
