Ed Sbragia is well known for making rich, polished and hedonistic wine— a style he refined as Winemaster at Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley for 32 years. Today, he’s still making wine, alongside his son Adam, in Dry Creek Valley, where Ed and his father were born and raised.
This red blend is an homage to the history of Dry Creek Valley, and the winegrowing tradition and the Italian immigrant families who have been farming the land and making wine here for more than a century. This is a true ‘Old Vine’ blend, as all the vines are aged 50 years or older.
The Teldeschi family sells Sbragia their Petite Sirah, which always makes a wine that is a deep purple, big, bold and tannic. The Carignane is grown by the Forchini family, from a vineyard that has grown grapevines since 1886. Gino’s vineyard was planted by Gino Sbragia in the 1950s, and produces rich, fruity and smooth Zinfandel. Together, all these varietals create a blend that is big and rich, but also balanced and polished.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
