Silver Oak Cellars began over a handshake between two friends with a bold vision: to focus on Cabernet Sauvignon aged exclusively in American oak and worthy of cellaring for decades to come. Raymond Twomey Duncan, a Colorado entrepreneur who began investing in California vineyards in the late 1960s, and Justin Meyer, a winemaker and former Christian Brother, began their partnership in a Napa Valley dairy barn in 1972, producing only 1,100 cases of their inaugural vintage. Over the next two decades, Silver Oak grew in popularity. Silver Oaks’ Napa Valley and Alexander Valley Cabernets sold quickly upon their release from the winery and became a sought-after staple on restaurant wine lists around the country—garnering raves from critics and wine lovers alike.
Exclusively for the Barrel Auction, Silver Oak Director of Winemaking Nate Weis has created a one-of-a-kind, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Silver Oak’s sustainably-farmed Alexander Valley estate vineyard Red Tail Ranch, and grower partners Terra a Lago and Rotlisberger Ranch. On the palate, the wine is a seamless expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from a historic California wine region. The wine is aged for 24 months in an American oak barrel coopered at the Duncan family’s cooperage, The Oak in Higbee, Missouri. This 20-case Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon lot is a vibrant, elegant expression of this classic California growing region.
The wine is presented in memory of Val Peline, owner of Terra a Lago, who passed away in October of 2017. Val was a stalwart member of the Alexander Valley community and a longtime grower for Silver Oak, and many other prestigious wineries.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
