Brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi came to California in 1876 to find gold, and instead they found something better: The Alexander Valley. As a celebration of all the Alexander Valley has to offer, SIMI presents “Close, But Not Tannat.”
At SIMI’s Landslide Vineyard, the distinctive soil composition of clay and loam made a perfect home for this varietal, and the 2014 harvest begged the team at SIMI to age this separately. One of the most complex vineyards in Alexander Valley, Landslide is comprised of five distinct soil types that were created by a volcanic landslide from Mount St. Helena. The vineyard also has three different distinguishable sections and several microclimates. Sourced entirely from Landslide vineyard, the blend was finished with blocks of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon to create an homage to Tannat from Alexander Valley. Deep, dark and voluptuous. This Tannat-based blend is a perfume of berries with notes of anise, tobacco and black fruit.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
