As a family-owned, boutique winery located in the Russian River Valley, Viszlay Vineyards specializes in making small lot, estate wines from its 10-acre vineyard. Situated on a gentle slope, the vineyard was planted in 1997, and drains to a rippling creek that leads to the Russian River. The soil has several distinct veins of sandy loam, red dirt and a small stretch of limestone. These soils, along with a slightly higher elevation than the valley, create unique microclimates for growing exceptional fruit.
The grapes for this Pinot Noir are grown on a gentle north facing slope of the Mayacama foothills. Situated only a hundred yards or so from the winery, the fruit is picked at the break of dawn and processed within minutes. This freshness is carried throughout the life of the wine, and is reflected in the fruit forwardness of the wine. The 2015 vintage saw a lower yield, yet grew high quality fruit enhanced by the recent drought.
A winemaker dinner or store visit is offered as part of this lot. Must be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and booked within a year of receipt.
