Six years ago, Peay Vineyards, Red Car Wine Company, Failla Wines, Freeman Vineyard & Winery, Littorai Wines and Joseph Phelps Vineyard created the West Sonoma Coast Vintners (WSCV) to explore this dramatic coastal landscape and to bring attention to the distinguished wines and exciting viticultural possibilities of the West Sonoma Coast. This lot is one of five one-time-only collaborations designed to showcase the diversity of WSCV wineries and to offer a never before, never again wine that celebrates their commitment to creating the finest wines from a truly remarkable region.
This collaboration showcases the experience of two pioneering wineries that are among the few producers brave enough to farm in the isolated Fort Ross-Seaview appellation. It is best described as the “edge of the continent” a high elevation, blustery region with low yields and limiting soils that requires a 110% commitment. Ehren Jordan of Failla Wines and Bibiana Gonzales Rave of Wayfarer are undaunted in the face of these challenges, and they have crafted a wine that exhibits the perfumed elegance of Failla with the subtle depth of Wayfarer. It is a grand-scale wine filled with violet, rose petal, bright red fruit and forest floor, all highlighted by a mineral streak. This is an exceptional bottling from an extreme location that’s destined to steal the show.
