Six years ago, Peay Vineyards, Red Car Wine Company, Failla Wines, Freeman Vineyard & Winery, Littorai Wines and Joseph Phelps Vineyard created the West Sonoma Coast Vintners (WSCV) to explore this dramatic coastal landscape, and to bring attention to the distinguished wines and exciting viticultural possibilities of the West Sonoma Coast. This lot is one of five one-time-only collaborations designed to showcase the diversity of WSCV wineries and to offer a never before, never again wine that celebrates their commitment to creating the finest wines from a truly remarkable region.
The winemaking team of Akiko Freeman of Freeman Vineyard & Winery and Kent Humphries of Ernest Vineyards brings together the grace and complexity found in Freeman wines, and the restraint and beauty for which Ernest is known. These two acclaimed winemakers blended fruit from the Yu-Ki Estate located 1,000 feet elevation in coastal mountains east of Occidental and the Ernest Cleary Ranch in Freestone, a site at slightly lower elevation. The combination of high elevation fruit and its intensity, combined with the lower elevation fruit characteristics of higher acidity results in a dramatic black-fruited wine with texture and structure. It is a blend that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
