Wine & Spirits Magazine has just released their 23rd Annual Restaurant Wine Survey, which is always much anticipated, as it presents a great national snapshot of the state of on-premise wine. They really do an outstanding job with both the bigger picture trends and the varietal by varietal reporting, so be sure to pick up your copy. I should also mention that this issue has a great report on rising star sommeliers and Napa and Sonoma wineries celebrating their 40th birthdays this year (more on that in another post).
The overall trends in restaurants, including rising average bottle pricepoints and more adventurous ordering, bode well for signs that the economy is slowly but surely gaining steam. Sonoma County wines were well represented among the top 50 wines by the bottle and the glass, and in the top varietal lists for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.
